Hoplite Xiphos and Dagger - 5th Century BCE

Description:An ancient Greek Sword and Dagger set, found in southern Magna Graecia/Sicilian. Circa 5th Century BCE. These would have been a Hoplite's secondary weapons whose primary weapon would have been the spear. The sword, known as a Xiphos Sword due to it leaf-shaped blade, is 21" in length; and the dagger is 11.5" in length.

Provenance: ex. Yorkville, Toronto, Canada collector of Bronze Age and Greek Art. Purchased from Antique Military Store mid 1980s; and reviewed by curation staff at ROM in 1990s (no official receipt).

Condition: Wear commensurate with age
